C05 - Multiscale Geometry Inspection

The aim of subproject C05 is the geometrical characterisation of red-hot components. To this end, optical geometry measurement techniques based on triangulation are being developed to guarantee accurate measurements despite of the optical inhomogeneity induced by the heat transfer into the surrounding air. The main research field is the compensation and reduction of the light deflection due to the inhomogeneous refractive index field. Furthermore, the combination of temperature and geometry data allows a documentation of the shrinkage behaviour of hot Tailored Forming components, which again permits the analysis of material distortion effects.
